Erica Johnston is Founder and Principal Designer at Erica R. Johnston Design, a full-service interior design studio based in Northern California and serving clients globally. She possesses the unique ability to unearth the potential of a home by enhancing its architectural bones while implementing enduring finishes and furnishings. Johnston’s signature style is less about trends and more about juxtaposing elements from different areas, layering textures to create a visually impactful and collected space. Working with clients through a journey of discovery, she channels her eye for detail to create spaces that perfectly suit their lifestyles and ethos. After graduating from Princeton, Johnston began her design career at Frog Design and One Kings Lane working with clients on the business side. She founded her namesake studio ten years ago to marry her practical expertise with her lifelong love of architecture and interiors after being named a finalist in Architectural Digest’s Living Room Showcase. As a designer, Johnston is passionate about creating spaces and objects that celebrate the intersectionality of form and function. She founded Pemberley Rose, a lifestyle brand for children, to further this underlying concept. Johnston’s work with EJD and Pemberley Rose has been featured in Architectural Digest, Vanity Fair, Vogue, The San Francisco Chronicle, Rue, and Domino. Her work was also recently featured in the book The Feminine Touch: 33 Interior Designers Defining Tomorrow. Johnston lives in Portola Valley, California with her family and a trio of pets—as well as the occasional deer and wild turkey.
